KNOW
GEOGRAPHY: Positano is an enchanting UNESCO gem nestled between the sea and mountains. This vertical city boasts hillside villas, picturesque steps, and a rich maritime history and has been a haven for creative minds like the Bloomsbury group. Explore its winding one-way road and charming stepped pathways on foot for an unforgettable experience
MONEY: Most places accept contactless cards (ask your bank for one if you’re traveling from US). You’ll need cash for bus tickets and taxis. Cash machines are at Palazzo Mulini in the town center.
LANGUAGE: Neopolitan is the regional Italian dialect. English is understood almost everywhere.
WHAT TO PACK: Pack light. All towns along the Amalfi Coast have steps; the smaller the bags the better. Pack only a small suitcase, and bring layers. Rubber soled shoes recommended for stepped paths, hikes and beaches. Nicer-wear if you plan to visit higher end hotel bars. We have hot & cold AC, refrigerators, hot and cold running water and a first aid kit.
WHEN TO VISIT: Summer is hot and humid with days reaching mid 30 C. Its also the busiest time due to European vacation calendars. The shoulder seasons of Spring and Autumn are ideal, hot and breezy enough to enjoy afternoons on the beach and cool enough for evening walks. In winter the town is very quiet with mainly local residents, and is a time favoured by artists and creatives.
WEDDING GUESTS: We are located behind the popular wedding venues of Villa Olivieri, Villa Giacomo and Palazzo Santa Croce. Often we have guests that want to stay close to a destination wedding venue. For additional rooms we partner with Giovannis House Positano who offer 3 self contained apartments near by.
TRANSPORT: All towns in the region are connected by only one stunning coastal road. Positano has a singular one-way internal road. There is very limited parking space. Locals tend to park in the hills then travel by local bus or ferries. If you’re in a small group we suggesting using taxi services and ferries to make the most of limited time.
BUSES (LOCAL ‘INTERNO’): Local Schedules Positano has a one-way internal road serviced by little orange and blue buses marked INTERNO. €1.80 tickets can be purchased with cash onboard and run on the every half hour. Get on at the Liparlati stop (by the mini market steps). Liparlati stop isn’t on the printed timetable but is the stop after SPONDA.
BUSES (LONG DISTANCE ‘SITA’): Large coach-sized grey buses serving Amalfi and Sorrento also serve Positano and run on the hour. Tickets can be purchased at grocery stores or via the SITA app. These can often be full during the summer so we recommend ferry which guarantees a seat.
